Mercedes Rolls Out New Four-Cylinder Engines for 2010 E-Class Sedan

Two new four-cylinder powerplants, a diesel and a gasoline with direct injection will be added to the engine-line-up of the 2010 E-Class, Mercedes-Benz announced today. The E200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY features a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with an output of 136HP enabling the executive sedan to accelerate from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 10.2 sec and reach a top speed of 210 km/h or 131mph while returning an average fuel consumption of 5.2lt per 100km or 45.2mpg US.

The 1.8-liter turbocharged petrol engine in the new E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY delivers an output of 185HP. The sedan hits the 100km/h mark from standstill takes 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 232km/h or 144mph US. When equipped with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the E200 CGI consumes 7.2 liters of premium unleaded petrol per 100 kilometres (32.7mpg US).

Mercedes said that both models will be launched across Europe in September with prices in Germany starting at €38,734.50 for the diesel-powered E200 CDI and at €39,508 for the petrol E200 CGI.

Brabus Presents the World’s First Euro 6 Compliant Performance Kit for Diesel Models

Mercedes-Benz tuning specialist Brabus has presented a new ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit for the S350 BlueTec, and by doing so, the company claims to have created the world’s first tuned diesel-powered car that meets the Euro 6 emissions standard, scheduled to go into effect in 2014. Available for both rear-while drive and 4MATIC four-wheel drive variants, the kit delivers an additional 55HP and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) of torque, for a total of 313HP and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft).

Designed to work like a plug-and-play device, the module increases the 3.0-liter V6 diesel’s output depending on the selected shift mode of the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. In “Eco” mode, peak torque increases, but the engine output remains unchanged (258HP), while in “Manual” or “Sport” mode maximum power is also boosted.

The modified S350 sprints from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a very respectable 6.5 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

The Brabus ECO PowerXtra D6S unit can be also fitted to all Mercedes E350 CDI BlueEfficiency variants as well as the CLS 350 CDI BlueEfficiency model, delivering identical output.

All models come with a three-year or 100,000 km (62,000 miles) warranty and can be specified with a custom Brabus stainless-steel exhaust with 4 tailpipes, delivering a more distinctive exhaust note and further optimizing power yield.

Vath Tunes Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate to 580HP

When the standard Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate (that's the W211) ain't doing it the trick for you, that's where tuning companies like Vath step in. The German firm has unveiled a new tuning package for the uber-sports wagon that increases power and gives the soon-to-be replaced E63 AMG Estate a more aggressive look.

Engine tweaks under the hood pump the 6.3-liter V8's output from 514 horsepower and 630Nm to 580 horsepower and 770Nm or 568 lb-ft while the removal of the electronic speed limiter allows the sporty Estate to hover over 300km/h or 187mph.

A high-performance brake system with 6-piston calipers, lowered air suspension by 35mm and new 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 245 rubber in the front and 285 at the back complete the list of mechanical mods.

Vath also developed a new carbon fiber front lip spoiler that promises to add about 9kg or 20 pounds of pressure on the front axle along with a specific rear diffuser at the back.

For the E63 AMG Estate's interior, the German tuning specialist offers a variety of carbon fiber accessories and Alcantara trim for the roof.
